I miss the water drop effect from compiz. Aside from being a more aesthetically pleasing cursor locator than Kwin's ring of stars, the facts that it persists briefly in a trail behind the mouse, and that the effect mildly distorts the underlying graphic without obscuring it, make it a great tool for presentation. It is not the "ripple" per se that I miss, but the functionality; any briefly persistent mild distortion would work equally well. -GEF

EDIT: Obviously, it would be most useful with mouse-based activation.
