I recently notice a small inconsistency in the animation effects: the press button animation.
In most program when you click a control button(e.g. the system settings), you would immediately see the button being pressed down(shadow appears) and bounced back, which makes you feel the button is pushed.
However, when you click an opened application item on the task bar, what you will see:
1, the button flash a little bit. 2, the window of that application begin to appear 3, after 0.5 or 1 second the button is pressed down, and would stay in that way.
If you take a look more closely, you would find the button that looks pressed down always refers the current active window. Personally this animation effects made me confused for a while and I do not find a way to configure this animation behavior.
For some other application, like the place name in Dolphin, when you click it, there is no animation but simply a square that circles the current place, which is not as obvious as an click button animation.
Personally I would suggest to have the press button animation consistent as people might see else where. For example, in the forum the behavior of "Submit" "Preview" button. People can feel that he actually clicked that button or that item in the task bar.
BTW as I have submitted several ideas I would love to spend spare time working on those ideas, if approved. I do C@kb_sc@kb_sc mainly for scientific computing, yet I love programming.

This I didn't understand, I dont have anything what circles but I have hover and selection effects.
The dolphins sidepanel "Places" is just, directories. Like in the file view as well. So they need to use same look.
But it is again about theme how they render buttons. In Dolphin, "Places" is shortcuts for directories but the toolbar is where real buttons are. And there you have the same effect as with other buttons when pressed. Like when choosing a file view style, the selected is pressed down.
The same is on taskpanel where the selected (aka active window) is pressed down. But it is about style as well like the toolbars look as well.
Example with toolbar (not about sidepanel "Places") and three different styles to show a buttons:
The top one is Oxygen, second is QtCurve with joined+button look and third is QtCurve without anything.
Three look with two different styles. And there are more styles to choose from. Every button (OK, Cancel etc) is depending of the style. And it is separated from Plasma styles (what rules the task panel).
The sidepanel "Places" is problematic. It can be tought as buttons and problem is with the style what draws the background of it. As they ain't buttons what are actions but locations, shortcuts to directories. So they should not look like buttons.
What I wish someone would fix, is the KickOff (alias start menu). As it does not follow any plasma style or kde style for buttons. Like when hovering favorites, there is just a retancle.
