A real automated time tracker.

Hi,

I've been wanting an application which will allow me to drag a file onto it without changing the window focus, capture the filename and then automatically track when any of the files thus associated with the apps are in focus. It would then record in a small database the time spent working on each file.

Alternatively it might reside on a workspace and do all that. I've started study on doing this myself, but at my skill level, this would take, oh 50 years?

There's a commercial service that does this at RescueTime.com. Their service is great. I especially love how if the app in focus is Firefox / Chrome then it considers which tab has focus as well as which window, and you can set which domains get registered as what category of time use.

There is an old, experimental open source client for Linux that uses their servers over at:
https://launchpad.net/rescuetime-linux-uploader

No updates for nearly 2 years though.

I would love to see this kind of functionality added to ktimetracker (part of the Kontact suite)
