There should be a setting in dolphin prefences to stop dolphin from showing the number of items in folders in the details view mode. It slows things down in a big hierachy of folders and files.

There is such a setting in nautilus by the way.

The best would be to make it possible to disable number generation permanently or for some particular folders/partitions.
