Draggin' instead of Scrollin'

Scrolling through pages is possible with the mouse wheel, scroll bars, arrows etc.

I suggest adding a new system-wide feature (similar to that in gwenview or common pdf readers)

Dragging while holding the middle/right mouse button would move the content more precisely than by scrolling.

Useful when looking through longs lists or reading long texts... should be easier to implement than this => brainstorm.php#idea61210_page1

Odd - I've only heard of that behavior associated with trackpoints before, not with mice.

Sometimes when you read you want to scroll the page slowly, (which is very interesting if you make it by dragging the page down), especially if you're "oldschool" and prefer manipulating physical objects i.e books
Other times you just want to change completely the context, like when browsing or going up a folder... which needs faster scrolling and then you use your mouse scroll wheel.

Windows has similar behavior where in a web browser you middle click and then the cursor turns into a scroll. However you seem to be talking about a click+drag instead of a click to change into a scroll mode. Is that right?

Indeed, there's the whole difference :)

The only caveat is how do you handle selecting text, which currently uses click+drag? I guess there are a couple of options: if the mouse is in a selectable area (text area) then click+drag selects, otherwise it scrolls. Another option is to use double-click+drag for selecting text.

Right click (or middle click) + drag
If this option would be chosen, the popping of the menu associated with the right click could be delayed to occur after the release of the button.
(adding modifier keys to use the left click would be interesting too especially for the touch pad)

NB. The web browser widget already has an option like this.
Shouldn't be hard to implement.
Cheers
