KDE supports virtual desktops. Right now (KDE 4.2.1), if someone will an application on his / her desktop of choice, he or she have to run the app and then right-click on its title bar / task manager icon and select "move to desktop x" (or something like that; x is a freely chosen number). I will like to have that option implemented in Kickoff already. Right-click on application entry in kickoff should bring option "open this application on desktop x" and "always open this application on desktop x". It should automatically open the application window on selected desktop. This can make virtual desktops themed (i.e. Games on desktop 2, Internet applications on desktop 3,...).

It can be done. You have to right click the titlebar, then go: advance->special window / program settings then check the desktop option and specify your desktop.
I had this sort of settings for some time, but I then realize it's not the best setting. It might be a hard thing to find, but I feel that linking a app with desktop is useless in KDE4 as it has activities, and I went from organizing my KDE not by virtual desktops but by activities, so that I can have a specialized look on all my desktops and can spread out same app over more desktop than just one. So I would say implemented. 0

My interpretation is that the OP wanted a more simple way to do this, i.e. directly in the .desktop file. 1hero2, is this correct, or are you happy with the way Primoz described?
