Dolphin could be improved by allowing multiple columns in the one pane, like the Multicolumn View Konqueror has in KDE 3.5x. The column view in Dolphin now shows a single column only, or at least that is the case in Kubuntu 8.10. A multicolumn view would allow faster access in directories where there are many files.

You mean like this?
Settings -> Configure Dolphin... -> View Modes -> Icons, Set "Arrangement" to "Columns". Then set Dolphin to icon view. If this is what you want, I'll mark this idea as already implemented.

---- Thanks very much - you have just made KDE4 much more usable for me! As you said, the original posting "idea" is already implemented. While you have just made my KDE experience more enjoyable, and I am most grateful for your help, I wonder if there might be other ordinary users like me who are not aware that Dolphin can be configured in this way. Coming from KDE3, I had thought that configuring Dolphin with View Modes -> Icons (and setting Dolphin to 'icon view') would give the view which had filenames under large-ish icons, similar to the default setting. After your help, I now realise that the old 'icon view' is now described as 'arranged in rows'. Can I suggest that the "multicolumn view", as it was called in KDE3, be placed as a more obvious single-click button in the main toolbar? Does this require a separate post? |

Yeah, a separate thread would be best.
