Gnome has the force quit applet that one can use to force apps to quit without opening a task manager.
Currently the only real way to do this is to create a link to x-kill in KDE3 and 4, KDE4 could benefit from something like this.

Well K-runner should support console commands, but I just check it and it didn't work.
Other way would be the console plasmoid. But still a special plasmoid could be created.

Ctrl-alt-esc works for me Cursor changes into a skull, click on the offending app and it's killed. Granted, it should or could benefit from being exposed better (i.e. getting people to know the function is there).

I think having this as a plasmoid would be reasonable, although care has to be taken to prevent people from using it accidentally.

So it's done. And will be moved to Done.
Actually it's already implemented. My bad!

No, actually. I was thinking more along the lines of something that popped up a list of open windows and running processes with a way to kill each one. It would also give the option of a mouse-click to kill things, but this would be a more universal solution. Actually, nevermind. I think this is a substantially different idea that I will post separately.
