One of the few things I liked about IE5.x/6 in Windows was the Search Explorer bar, a sidebar that displayed a page with a defined list of search engines and a text field and search button. Search results would display in the sidebar, making it easy to go back to the results rather having to go back to the search results using the back button. Some might say the usefulness has been defeated by using tabs, but some people like me don't like tabs, or would simply like to have the search results on screen at all times. This method of searching has been simplified by the widespread use of widescreen monitors: more of us have space for a sidebar.
I'd like something similiar in Konqueror. While not many search engines provide a "lite" version of their UI which would fit in a sidebar, some do, notably Google: http://www.google.com/m?uipref=3&hl=en (mobile) or http://www.google.com/ie (the original used in IE). That's one possibility: have a sidebar that supports only the few search engines where its reasonable to expect the search results to fit in the sidebar, like Google's pages above. This is the option I prefer. Another possibility would be to provide the ability to open the search results from the existing searchbar in a sidebar. While this obviously wouldn't work for those search engines with a very cluttered search results page, it sounds simpler to implement.

Try right-clicking the sidebar and selecting Add New » Web SideBar Module

I didn't know Konqueror supported that! I think this idea can be moved to done, but something might be needed to help discoverability, this never would have occurred to me as a way of implementing this idea.

I think the problem is that practically no one uses this functionality anymore. In fact, Konqueror is the only modern browser that I can think of that still supports this.
