I often work with files and directories with Dolphin and have the need to rename a lot of files in the same manner.
pyRename is e.g. a nice tool for that, easy to use and with powerful features. However this is not only about simple renaming, what Dolphin already does. It is about replacing special text parts, change upper/lower case, replace underscore with space and vice versa, change case of first letter in every word etc. Check out pyRename to see, what it can do... However, it sucks to just go to the k-menu, open pyRename, navigate it to the directory that I have already open in Dolphin, and then, finally be able to start renaming. As Dolphin is a advanced heavyweight file-manager, I suggest to implement the pyRenamer functions as part of Dolphin, in the same way, as you can open a konsole view using F4, you should be able to enter the mass-rename-toolbox similar to pyRename by pressing F10 or another hotkey. |

I have an actions submenu entitled "rename with krename" which being a kde app is more appropriate then pyRename and works as you'd like (not sure the functionality is equivalent but probably close) http://www.krename.net/

funny thing: I have krename installed, but no reference in dolphin for it. Not in the menu bar and not in the popup menues...
what might be caused by the fact that my installed krename (from kubuntu 9.04 repositories) seems to be a KDE 3.5 app still. |

I'm running krename-4.0.0-2.4 (openSuse) |

that clearly is the prob. I run krename 3.0.14 (can't believe) because kubuntu64 repositories seem to have no later version of it!

ok, now i have krename 4.x and kde 4.3.3.
Problem is however: no trace of krename in Dolphin. What can i do? |

days later:
i found krename and used it. might be possible i am not able to use krename properly but in my opinion pyrename ist much more comfortable and much easier to use. so i profoundly object to the claim, 'already implemented'! @BlackCat: please change the status back to 'not implemented' |

If you have specific improvements for krename you can suggest them in a separate idea, or you can make a new idea of allowing pyrename syntax in krename, but since there is already an application dedicated to this functionality I don't think suggesting it be implemented in dolphin is a valid idea.
