Hi everybody.

I do realized that volume information that appears on my screen when I change the volume with my keyboard's buttons, is very annoying (while I'm watching a movie, reading text, etc). Also that there is no information on the screen, like the volume information, for the brightness.

Its sins:

- It is shown in the middle of the screen.
- It is opaque.
- It is not very stylized (It's only a progress bar with no more icon or information about what is).
- Only appears when change volume, but no when I change brightness.

I would like to have one on my screen more like the Mac OS X one (or Compiz).

In brief, the main idea is to improve the "on screen" system information (I call it "on screen system information", but I don't know if it is the real name, neither if is a good one xD).

I leave the task of improving it to the developers as they consider the better way. But if it is useful, this is what I would do:

1. Show them on one corner... or on the middle up or on middle down (maybe user could chose).
2. Do them transparent.
3. Replace the current one for a drawing like the volume icon... with a few thin lines (less intrusive as possible). Another one for the brightness level information (but with the icon of a bulb). Using same drawing style for both of them.
4. Let the user configures the time it is showing (short time is better).

This can be discussed, I know that is more than a simple idea, but like I wrote before, the main of all of this is to improve this kind of information, because the current system is very simpleton (only a progress bar) and annoying.

I hope this message can be useful :). Thanks!

PD: English is not my mother tongue... so excuse me for all my mistakes! :P

Fist: I don't know what happened with my message but it changes the tittle to the same tittle of a previous idea, the real name for this topic is:

Less intrusive volume information on screen.

If somebody can change the tittle I would be very grateful.

OK done!
PS.: Your idea contains more then one solution, change it so it has one idea only...
Just merge some ideas in one idea encompassing all of this and it should be fine...

Thanks Primoz!

I change a little the message to merge the ideas... but I do realized that the tittle now represent only one of these ideas.

I don't know what tittle would be better... maybe "Improving information on the screen"? The problem is that I don't know how to call it... ??do people understand what I'm trying to refer?

Thanks for everything and sorry for the inconvenience :)

Hi Alec!

Thanks for your response!

That is better, did you do that or is the new one for kde 4.4? xD

Well, I think that is still a little intrusive, It should show information without being the protagonist... less opaque and shorter could be nice.

Also very important... not to be showed right in the middle of the screen.

I have KDE4.4 and OSD uses same theme as plasma, and it's not in middle of screen, but near bottom.
Sorry, but this seems as already implemented.
