KMail multi message reply

I'd like to be able to reply on several selected messages at once, so these appear inline in order of selection. The reply-to entry is just a bit extended (to choose (the right) from).

I think you'll find that Forward 'as a digest' and add your reply will achieve this.

Excellent! I think this is (already) solved. Thanks for the tip!

As with 'forward, inline', I think when multiple messages are selected, replying should be inline by default. But that's my opinion!

(KMail version 1.9.9)

Well done.

Have you check Configure Toolbars? You need 'Main Toolbar '. Send 'Forward' back into the list, and 'Inline' into the 'Forward' position on the toolbar. That should do it.

There was a 'Forward' button with 'Inline' available originally, but I'd like it with 'Reply' as standard, so a default 'reply-to' address is pre-filled in, with all selected messages inline.

Sorry - I don't understand what you are trying to do. The Inline button I mentioned is one aspect of Forward, but it can't possibly know who you want to forward the messages to. Am I misunderstanding?

Thank you for saying; I wasn't aware of my language skills (for years), until people like you made me. I'm the one who's not clear.

I'd like the Inline option, it indeed exists already. But I think it should be default, that when a user selects multiple messages, or when a user replies to multiple messages, all the messages appear inline.

As a result, that when a user hits the reply button, all selected messages should appear inline in the Composer window.

There's no 'Inline' option for 'Reply', a 'Reply > Inline' option would be nice! Or 'Reply > Single' if Inline is default/automatically selected as standard, if the Reply button affects one or more messages.

At the moment it seems not possible (unless coded) to make the Reply button collect all selected messages inline, in the same way done by 'Forward > Inline', replacing 'Fwd:' with 'Re:' and entering the receiver's email address.

It's sometimes quite difficult to get over to someone else something that is absolutely clear in your own mind :-) It's not a problem as long as you don't mind more questions being asked.

I don't think it is a common requirement. You normally 'reply' to a message. Adding multiple mails and sending them as a digest is usually when you want to make an extra person aware of a whole conversation. I can't imagine a scenario where you would want to combine the two. Do you have a particular use-case in mind?

Indeed I have, more often when I don't check my mail for a period of time. Even when checking my mail every day it's plausible that someone sent a follow-up, in some cases within 10 seconds from the first (alright 100 seconds).

Also it's handy when one wants to combine several messages from different people into a group (with replying, to all/several or one in particular). If I get suggestions on how to organise a party, from more than one person, it's handy to involve them all and combine the back and forth chitchat.

There are better ways to communicate, but this is one of them. Getting a result is another.

You could always form a Group of the people you want to reply to - it can be temporary, deleted when it's no longer useful. Then you could forward as a digest, but use the Group as the To field. If you have the latest packages Group should now work in the same way as the old Distribution Lists did.
