improve audio configuration

Thu May 05, 2011 12:37 pm
Hi there I got a new idea for the audio configuration.

I use a marrantz ampli connected to my pc with a optic cable. the only possibility to watch movie in 5.1 on kde is to use VLC (and in there option select : AC3 passthrough/spdif) but if you wan't to watch the movie on dragon player or bagarang the sound would be in stéréo.

when you goes here : System Settings =>;; Multimedia and when you goes in the "speaker configuration", in profil there is only a "stereo digital option" there is no possibility to have ac3 passtrought

my idea is to implant an option to have directly the possibility to select "AC3 passthrough/spdif" for you video, game, musique, communication, .... in multimedia configuration

edit : for the moment the only possibility to have a ac3 passtrought/spdif on dragon player is here :
I found a solution but it is not really user friendly : viewtopic.php?f=22&t=38345

edit 2 : I tried VLC phonon backend , as you can see :

Now there is "HDA ATI SB, ALC892 Digital (IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output)" , I put this card in the top for all my stuff (video , musique , ...) but it's change nothing, I can't have the ac3 passtrought spidf

Please follow bcooksley's suggestion to "Please file a feature request aganist the Xine Phonon backend at bugs.kde.org, requesting that more Xine configuration options are made available in System Settings." We can skip the idea voting stage for this one as this is simply exposing pre-existing functionality.
