Burning a DVD

Mon Sep 19, 2011 6:56 pm
I was disappointed when K3B couldn't just burn a DVD from some avi files that I have. It needed video_ts and audio_ts, and how do I get those? It's not easy. One way is to convert them to mpeg2 with mencoder, but so far, it doesn't convert all avi files. The next step would be to extract the video_ts and audio_ts from those mpeg2 files with another application and then return to K3B and see how well it can put multiple movies on one disc. A few years ago, a third party made a KDE DVD Burner on kde-apps.org, but its dependencies are already out of date; so I'm not sure if I want to downgrade some packages just to try it. It would be nice to just burn a DVD.

Burning a DVD

there are a number of dvd authoring apps that take videos in various formats and make them into dvd format (with titles and such), some may even call K3b to do the burning

look at:
-kdvdauthor
-kmediafactory
-2mandvd
-qdvdauthor

other non kde/qt apps:
-devede
-bombono
-tovid
-DVDStyler

Burning a DVD

Thanks, yes, since this post, I figured out that DeVeDe automates the approach that I described — mencoder and dvdauthor. KDvdAuthor looks like it has been abandoned for a couple years, but KMediaFactory looks like it deserves a shot. I think I'll try the last three KDE/Qt apps you mentioned and pick my favorite. This thread and another on a Debian forum are very resourceful with their lists of DVD-creation apps.
