I really hope that makes it into the 20.04 release. This is such a fundamental problem that it is hard to believe it hasn't been fixed before now. I'll be going back to LinuxMint soon due to this issue. I've already had enough problems not being able to open files over the network, having to remember to copy them back because I had to make a local copy, and etc. It's really a no-go for non-computer savvy users in the shop.

Yes. Me too. I cant understand why this has had such a low priority for so many years. It's a complete showstopper for anyone with a NAS and people are used to Windows connecting without problems.

Also in 20.04 it'seem to be the same.
This is the main reason because I stopped using kde... |

@ivanomatteo: Do you have kio-fuse installed? That is necessary for this to work.

FYI kio-fuse package is now part of Debian and KUbuntu 21.04.

Issue still persists. I hate to be cynical, but expecting every program to have code written specifically for KIO is unrealistic. I won't claim to know how much it differs from GVFS, but it'd be nice to at least have the option to try - KDialog, right now, refues to even connect.
I'm actually quite curious how Windows handles this, since I've always been able to access my SMB share in Explorer via manually typing in the address with no issue regardless of program. |
