Yes I have read and several times I have seen something like "I am surprised that anybody uses Konqueror" so that was my reaction. And in points 1 and 4 I wrote that I don't have problem with KHTML, it is fast and works without any problem for 99% of web pages. So I am satisfied user of Konqueror with KHTML and I don't think it makes sense to spend time and energy by replacing it by webkit (I think this would be the only meaningful replacement). It would be much better to use this time to improve KHTML and to port good things from Webkit because sooner or later there will be anyway stable webkit kpart for Konqueror. BTW: there are some pages working correctly neither in KHTML nor in Webkit.

Doing that would likely require more work. WebKit already works, all it's missing is better KDE integration. KHTML does not work for many use cases. You're sugesting that it would be easier to fix KHTML than to inttegrate WebKit, and I just don't follow that logic. Furthermore, WebKit has much more development resources behind it and so is more likely to grow and adapt. There are apparently very little resources behind KHTML. This is the equivalent of wanting to use a piece of stick with string for fishing because you had it first, instead of a brand new, quality fishing rod that someone bought you. |

I might give it a try then, even though I do not like the name... but that's another discussion.

The render-engine is okay, some fixes have to be made, implementing some new standards, but it is more important to add new Konqueror-features:
-Better Addons -e.g. for developers and "hacking" -changing code, view http-data, fast enabling/disabling of JS, debugging -Better RSS-Integration -Additional Render-Engines for [i]Website-testing[/url] like Webkit (it works in KDE4.3), but thats just a small toy The User |

And then the KNewStuff integration should follow.

One of the things that I found amusing is that the login system on the dot works with firefox but does not work with konq. It may be a bug in the dot but it is indicative of the problems when using khtml.
One of the issues that I see is that other javascript and html engines are moving at the speed of light and we are stuck with kjs and khtml. Maybe with more devs such a thing would be possible, but all the other two engines namely gecko and webkit have such large communities behind them that it is: a) impossible to match b) foolish not inherit.

Open Source does not belong to anyone... and by the way, WebKit is open source... If it's not good enough, you should not use Qt then, because is does not belong to KDE either...

it's the only completely integrated right now. As a web browser, it is not the only thing that works, infact many people don't think it works well enough to be their primary browser.
That's a pretty childish reason, especially considering that it is released under LGPLv2 |

I'm using Konqueror/KHTML as my primary browser since early KDE3, and it serves me quite well. Of course it would be great to have additional rendering engines for konqueror out of the box, but i think KHTML should be continued as default.

There's a wikipage about Arora KDE 4 integration: http://code.google.com/p/arora/wiki/KDE4Integration
And here is a Discussion about using kdelibs instead of qt. I guess this would be necessary to integrate things like kross or kwallet into Arora, no? |
