Which version? Konqueror 4.2.1 logs me in fine. O.o Being a website designer myself, I'd love to start working on KHTML. KDE 4 was what really made me passionate about becoming a programmer. I wouldn't mind working on KJS either. Thing is, I've only just started learning C++. Maybe the devs would help me learn, but I wouldn't want to be a burden. Hmm...

What Konqueror or any other browser needs is either being flexible by nature with lot's of options and things user can set up for himself....
... or to support Firefox addons. Really without addons Firefox is not so great browser anymore... and the thing a lot of people miss in Konqueror (aside from sites that don't render properly in it) is Addons. BTW what's the status of Firefox Qt4 port ? Shouldn't it solve this problem ?

Simply fix the bugs in KHTML, Acid3 100/100 would be nice. We simply don't need a new rendering engine.
I think Firefox's Qt-Port does not support the XUL-Files, which are used by the most powerful addons. Enabling such features in Konqueror would be great, simply the best. @Madman, although i have not found any junior jobs in Bugzilla, I think that there are also simple tasks. KDE-Programs aren't blackboxes, there are ways to understand them.

What is your rationale behind this? |

It would be nice, but it shouldn't be a priority: Apple released a Webkit build that passed the test, but was heavily-laden with bugs and only supported the features to the amount needed to pass the test. Mozilla did something similar. To be honest, I prefer 85/100 with the knowledge that the features that do pass the test are fully-functional and complete.
Heh. I'll look for a way to contact them, methinks... this kind of thing may even improve my website design experience.

BTW: I just tried WebKit KPart and it works perfectly.
Even YouTube works which gave me the biggest headache! But when I try to switch to KHTML the whole browser crashes.

I don't know about you guys, but I would like to see Konqueror as default in foreseeable future of KDE.
But I would like to see it come with WebKit KPart by default. And I as a hobby web-admin or web-developer (but really hobby) see KHTML as a good Web-authentication tool. It's better for rendering pages directly form FTP. And WebKit has some rendering issues, at least on my Konqueror.

I also prefer KHTML. But WebKit is well integrated in KDE4.3, one simple package.
Default or not is an issue for the distributor. Would there be any way to integrate Gecko? |

It's rather simple. 1) It works great. /for me at least/ 2) It is proven to be stable and well-integrated in kde. Just don't see any reasons to switch default engine. |

Well I think there should be a cmake switch to enable webkit as default or khtml

I've only seen pictures and can already say that should easily be the default web browser for KDE. Btw, I agree that Konq should have ditched KHTML a long time ago, webkit just seems perfect, great render, fast, and open-source. |

Konqueror is a great application.
Why should we give it up? Rekonq is a new application, not perfect. Rekonq has two essential features (the otherones are uninteresting): -Webkit (which is integrated in Konqueror) -Tabs in seperate processes How could we bring the second feature to Konqueror? By modifying KParts: There could be an option for KParts to open the program in a new process. So there would be all nice rekonq-features in Konqueror. Rekonq does not provide all the great Konqueror-Features: -display PDF, PS etc. -Konqueror-Addons -FTP, SSH, file... -service-menus I think adding the feature to KPart would be the easiest good solution for the performance-issue. The rendering-issue is already solved by WebKit-Part as an alternative to KHTML . But there is still work to make Konqueror the best browser in the world: there aren't such great Addons like in Firefox. (e.g. Firebug, Add to Searchbar or iMacros. The User |
