KIOSlave : Google

Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:07 pm
IDEA: A KIOSlave to browse Google services with public interfaces

The KIOSlave may provide a tree like this

  • google://username:password/
    • Calendar
      • {list of available calendars -- each viewable with Kontact}
    • Contacts
      • {list of contacts -- each viewable with Kontact}
    • Documents
      • {list of documents -- each viewable in KOffice}
    • Photo
      • {listing from Picasa -- loadable into Krita or similar}

I'm not sure how much this makes sense as a KIOSlave...

But, anyway, there's work on Google GData API integration with Akonadi. Contacts, calendars, etc show up in KMail/Kontact/etc, which I believe is the end result you want.

I could only find some screenshots via Google, but in a KDE Commit-Digest there was a link to a git code repository.

I suggested it as a KIOSlave because browsing things with Dolphin would be familiar. And also it will be easier to get things like KOffice, KWrite, etc in the loop. But I am interested in seeing what comes out of Akonadi
