I really dislike the zoom out/zoom stuff to switch between the activities. So, I thought in next/prev. button on the cashew:
http://yfrog.com/0eswitchqj (not necesseraly that ugly)

Or, instead of the buttons, a mini list of the activities:
http://yfrog.com/0oswitch1j (again, not that ugly)

Hope you like it.

I'm sure the ZUI [Zooming User Interface] will be better with time (from what Chani says on her blog, it seems she hasn't started to do the fancy bits yet), but until then I'm also staying away from it.

What I found works for me nicely is the Acitivity switcher Plasmoid, which already comes with KDE natively. The only problem I have with it is that it takes too much space compared to it being only a list.

Your idea is not bad, but I'm not 100% convienced. I feel that with some love the already existing plasmoid would be just fine. That said, your ideas applied to it would make it look a lot better already.

It's time to prod some serious buttock! ;)

And I like to have some simple shortcuts - or missed I something?

Shortcuts already exist. See the Plasma FAQ link in my signature.

Oh okay. Thank you!

For all others:
# Add activity: Shift-Ctrl-A
# Next activity: Shift-Ctrl-N
# Previous activity: Shift-Ctrl-P

I don't like the ZUI at the moment either, but I think it has to do with the "sluggish" and overall incomplete feeling. Imagine it being as smooth as Desktop Grid/Present Windows (KWin effects) - and of course a global shortcut to zoom out - wouldn't that be great?

EDIT: In other words, I think we should give it some time.

What about Activities Bar? I think that's what you wish.

Maybe, but it doesn't work well for me.

How? I can't imagine.
It worked for me on both Kubuntu and Arch.

Do you wish an added options for it.

1 - If I choose "Autohide", the panel appears whenever I put the cursor on the top of the screen

2 - If I choose "Windows can cover":
a - The panel will be always on the desktop
b - Sometimes it covers the windows

Of course I don't want "Always visible" in this case. It would be nice if I could choose more than on option - "Autohide" and "Windows can cover", in this case.

That's not all.

3 - I can't remove an activity without zooming out. That's really annoying.

4 - ZUI is very buggy, very, very slow and kind of nonsensical. What's the advantage I take from placing activities like plasmoids?

I tried to remove an activity I created for some tests. Plasma crashed and, when it came back, all my widgets were in the upper-left corner. If I tried to push one bask to its place, it came back to that corner. I had to re-organize my desktop again.

So, that's why _really_ dislike ZUI.

I too dislike the ZUI - I use the activity bar and it works great for me.
My ideal setup would be to have one activity per dektop, and link them together. That way, I could use the cube, expo, etc. to switch activities.

I think about the activities linked with the desktops as an option, not a rule. I, personally, don't like it.

3&4 I agree with that I don't have the 1&2 problem.
But I would like to see what you wish. Also after seeing your mock-ups it did make some more sense. so +1

Are there any shortcuts for the activities? I have never tried. ctrl+shift+a does not work.
