Did you try the ksuperkey program (see previous posts)?

I think what Coldfusionstorm is expecting is that ksuperkey (or its functionality) be installed and enabled by default for new KDE systems, rather than making new users go through all of the steps to find, install, configure, etc. ksuperkey in order to provide this functionality which is provided out-of-the-box on most other systems.

We shouldn't have to find ksuperkey and set it up to be able to have this. KDE should be user-friendly and intelligent enough to offer this functionality by default or at least have an option somewhere in the menus to allow this behavior.

+1 from me! Hitting the Superkey on a default install should never simply do nothing.

Admin edit: This idea has been marked as Done because it has been implemented in the form of ksuperkey.

How is this marked as "Done"? Ksuperkey is not part of KDE desktop it needs to be added to it. Many distros don't even have a package for it, hell there is not a PPA for it anymore, people have to compile it! and configure it.

1. KDE Brainstorm ideas will be marked "Done" when someone has implemented the feature, regardless if it's included by default or not. Please use http://bugs.kde.org to report feature requests that you want to see included by default.
2. The developers have decided to not ship with this feature for X11, but it's already implemented for Wayland, see https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/124954/.

Unity and Windows 7 have launched their "start menu" for ages by pressing the Super/Meta/Win key.

That shows demand.

It also means that if KDE wants new users to adapt quickly, it should support the same shortcut, rather than do nothing when it's pressed.

How can I disable this behavior with Meta key? I have it set to Alt+F1 in global shortcuts (Plasma -> Activate Application Dashboard Widget). But when it's set, it also activates with single Meta, which is very irritating for me. Only when I set it to none, it's disabled. I want to keep Alt+F1, but no single Meta. Why is it even acting implicitly without showing any setting? It's just incorrect.
