Most items in the get hot new stuff download system conform to a certain set of specifications. That means that when you click "install" it installs the file correctly. However, if the file doesn't confirm to those specs, it often just fails silently. If this sort of thing occurs, get hot new stuff should prompt the user to do whatever is needed to get it working.

So for instance if instead of supplying the necessary download file the GHNS entry is actually a link to a web page where you can download the file manually, when you click install GHNS should recognize it is a link and prompt the user to open it in a browser window. Or if it is just a compressed file containing image files to use as icons or wallpapers, the program should at least recognize that it is a compressed file and ask the user to save or uncompress it to a location of their choosing.

The new GHNS does this.
