I'm part of the "can't understand the interest in weather apps" crowd but I do like the general idea about data engine enabled wallpapers. There should be all kinds of uses for that feature. Off the top of my head I'm thinking ambient monitoring of networks or the stock market (that would probably be a bad idea right now - we can't have KDE users jumping off buildings) or anything else that can be scraped from the web. +1 for the underlying idea.

Heh, yeah. This is a good way to stress-test the technology. Already the base wallpaper plugin class has been improved so that dataengines are easier to use inside wallpapers. (Thanks to aseigo)

For those who weren't aware, there is a thread containing a large number of ideas like this Plasma Wallpaper Brainstorming.

Since it looks like this is being implemented ( http://jtechinda.blogspot.com/2009/04/y ... -post.html ), could someone make/find a wallpaper set with different conditions for the same scene? Ideally, there would be a wallpaper for every condition, and for each of the seasons. For example, four sunny day wallpapers, one with snow on the ground, one with flowers, one with plain grass, and one with colored autumn leaves. The same with windy days, rainy days, nights, etc. This is like what was visualized in the original mockup, and I much prefer it to random pictures of a sun or a snowflake.
