this could be easily done as a Plasma::Wallpaper and using the weather DataEngine for the necessary information.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about weather and what it'll be like tomorrow ? If I need to know about weather, I just have a look through the window.

I do not get the fuss about those weather plasmoids, sorry...

The look through the window only gives you current info about weather, not what will it be in next few days.
And while I agree with you that this might not be useful for some it's still a really cool thing. And since I have an weather app I don't need to watch the weather report, as I already know it.

i'm kinda in the "i'll just look out the window" camp too, but this is quite a nice idea (or gimmik).

those wise to the ways of weather can get a pretty good idea of what's coming from what can be observed in the present (out your window), the same cannot be said for a weather app telling you "it's sunny", or "it's slightly overcast" or whatever (edit-though there are things which are somewhat advantageous, like accurate temp, humidity etc). its just nowhere near the same level of information as visually assertaining what's coming from cloud formation, colour, wind effects, etc. but for those stuck in a windowless basement, its better than nothing, and something that looks as gorgeous as your visual representation above could be quite soothing for the human condition.

as such, even though my feet are still firmly planted in the "look out the window" camp, i'm going to vote this idea up.



~edit, when i first saw the title to this, i thought you ment fading out windows further back in the stack or something similar, to give an atmospheric depth... i would have voted for that too.

It probably means "it can be implemented, someone just has to write it".

Would it be possible to use Qedje's animated wallpaper support for this, but with transitions? I haven't actually looked into the workings of anything to do with E17, but some of their animated landscape wallpapers gave me the idea. Just a thought...

Transitions should be possible with the current tools available via Plasma. (Fade, etc)
But I'd rather get basic functionality working before going for the bling.

Last thing I want is to have a gloomy desktop on gloomy weather :undecided:

So set it to Dubai International and have sun.
Of course then you might as well change your wallpaper to a picture of the sun. :P
