I copy my last idea from kde-look.
I propose a simple application launcher as popup applet plasmoid( called klickers for now) For now, if you want to find an application, you have : ---Lancelot, Application launcher : - Advantage : All applications are organizate, and more - disadvantage : A simple user, works with only 8, or 9 applications. Not All! It's slow to find your application. ---Icons desktop, (quickLaucher) : - Advantage : Just your favorite application are shown. It's fast to find it! - Disadvantage : It use big place! The first one is an multiple-dimension organization. The Second one use 1 dimension. So, now, klickers want to be 2-dimension organization of application. 1 icons = 1 menu.. Here is my graphics idea: ( i m not a graphist) Here Mac Os exemple using nice animation ( but usless): http://images.appleinsider.com/leopard- ... ock-12.png

You can already set quicklaunch to have zero visible icons, making it do essentially the same thing you are suggesting.

Well it still doesn't behave as OPs mock-up. But I agree that the main idea is implemented to some point. But I'll leave it open for now as it's still an idea how to make quick launch better.

I think there should also be a KMenu embeddable into the Desktop:
The KMenu is quite simple, but it would be great to place the menu on the desktop and not only the button. It would be ideal for this idea. Maybe there could be a Plasmoid "Menu-Button" which shows a Plasmoid on mouseclick. It would make all of these menus more flexible. Then every button could show any Plasmoid. Of course it could also show a container, containing custom icons and other Plasmoids. That would be a real user-defined menu. |
