Currently there are two methods to search for applications. One is krunner, which is launched by alt+f2 by default but is also used in the search bar in the lancelot menu. The other is the search in the kickoff-style application launcher (the default). I think it would be better if the application launcher menu also used krunner like lancelot does. There are several reasons. One is that I would think it would be easier to maintain one application search system rather than two. Second, the application menu does not have access to the other runners that krunner provides, like bookmarks and recent applications. Third, the applications returned by krunner are different than the ones returned by the application launcher, and in my opinion krunner does a better job.

Well, what if I dont want to have a krunner?
Right now I'm trying to install a minimal OS on quite old PC (256mb ram) and each MB is very precious. However as optional feature its a must and I really would like to enable it on my main PC;) |

Wouldn't using the same system, sharing resources, help in cases like that rather than having two different but somewhat similar systems in use at the same time? The krunner system can't be completely disabled AFAIK so it would always be running no matter what. Besides, I don't think I would want to use KDE or Gnome on a 256 meg only system...possible, yes, but not a very pleasant experience.

I also doubt someone would be using the kickoff-style application launcher on a system like that, with all of its animations. The menu-style application launcher would probably be better, and does not have a search bar.

@Lukas: KRunner is part of the KDE Session, and is responsible for displaying the Logout / Shutdown / Switch User windows.
