Fire krunner, type an "identifier" like # and then the unicode code for the character, press enter and the character is inserted in the active document and/or copied to klipper.
The runner could have an option to set "shortcuts" for the most used symbols. For example #03b1 gives "alpha" but if you insert #\a also gives alpha Those shortcuts could be configured on the runner's preferences dialog.

It would be nice to have some comments (specially from those who voted against the idea) in order to build a better proposal.

Hey, that's my idea!
I've thought of something similar, but with a LaTeX-like syntax. For example, \\mu -> µ. Your idea would probably be easier to implement though.

As most people said "yes" (and the few who said no did not explain why... ) I filled the feature request on the KDE Bug tracking system:

It sounds not too hard to realize, so I'm going to look what I can do... (might be moved to in development)

It is a good idea, but there are some other solutions right now, like iBus:

As of today, almost any program supports it. But your solution is a good one so I'll shut up
connect(post, SIGNAL(readSignature()), qapp, SLOT(quit()));

@Mods: This can be moved to implemented.
and @Admins: As I have a kde-svn-account I would enjoy the satisfaction to see a "Developer" over my avatar . |
