Currently there are two menu styles available in KDE Menu.

- Kick-off
- Classic

Many people hate Kick-off style because of scroll option.

To avoid this scroll, I propose a new style - "Freestyle Kickoff"

- Shift search bar from top position to the bottom. This will free the top side restriction
- All The sub-menus should pop-up independently on the right side of the main menu. This will make navigation easy
- Shift Help, System, Settings menu to "Computer" tab as sub-menus. This will reduce scrolling in "Applications" tab
- Make "Places" in "Computer" tab as sub-menu
- Make "Documents" and "Applications" in "Recently Used" tab as sub-menu

Basically what I am proposing is combination of Classic & Kick-off Menu.

I like following things of Kick-off
- Search bar
- Sections (Favourites, Applications, Computer, Recently Used, Leave)

I like free flow of Classic where you don't have to do back and forth and don't have to scroll.

So my proposal is that bottom portion of the menu to have search bar and sections like Kick-off. And top portion like Classic.

What you are essentially describing is the windows vista menu.

KDE is in urgent need of an improved menu.

KickOff, classic and Lancelot are very bad.

I agree with your idea and with bigbruno that Kickoff should be improved, and Lancelot is rubbish.

I really like your idea, but maybe you can make a mockup or a drawing of your idea?

Sorry. I am not good in graphics designing.

Basically my idea is to avoid scrolling and have easy manoeuvring through the menu.

Are there any differences between your idea and the windows 7 menu?

Now in KDE 4.6, Lancelot has option - "Open popups for subcategories"

This is what I wanted here and we can mark this feature as "Done"

Thanks Ivan for implementing this feature!
