I think would be nice to have the possibility to integrate Thunderbird with the Message Indicator Plasmoid.

I don't know if the development effort should be in the plasmoid or in Thunderbird.

thanks

Actually, this is indirectly possible. There is an addon for Thunderbird that is meant to integrate the Thunderbird notifications with the Ubuntu notifications ("libnotify"). Luckily, libnotify interfaces well with KDE, and will give you the plasma integration.

https://launchpad.net/libnotify-mozilla

The only 'extra' tweak necessary is picking out a decent icon in the add-ons preferences. You can find the icons in usr/share/icons/oxygen/48x48/ (or something like that), just pick a good looking "new mail" icon.

There are other add-ons too, which provide similar functionality if you look.

Hi Kver,
Thanks for your time.
Actually i use firetray addon for thunderbird and works fine. My point was, as I don't have the skills to do it, to suggest for somebody to integrate thunderbird with the message indicator plasmoid, so you could use just one applet for kopete and thunderbird, in my case for example.

I opened too an issue in firetray for this feature.
thanks

I got Thunderbird to work with the KDE message indicator (envelope icon that otherwise is intended for Kopete and Kmail). I don't know exactly what it was but I enabled Akonadi (which I had disabled), I installed akonadi-googledata (in order to get Kontact working with gmail/calendar), and my Thunderbird package is from Kubuntu repositories and has two Unity/Gnome integration add-ons. They need to be enabled for message indicator to work. (I don't have the specific add-on names right off hand.) Anyway, I deleted my accounts in Kontact/Kmail/KAddressBook and Thunderbird and the KDE message indicator still work together. I used a contacts add-on to connect to Gmail contacts and it even brings over my groups set up on Gmail contacts.

I had to install the package thunderbird-gnome-support to make Thunderbird use the KDE message indicator. That is all.
