Hi. Basically Ubuntu is implanting some sort of Heads Up Display http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/939 where the menus, and sub menus of an application are searchable.

It seems talk to the app the same way the KDE menu bar plasmoid does to get the menu bar objects internally. (dbusmenu)

Perhaps it does not have to disable the menu bar in the program? It could just be a supplement?

It's open source... It really isn't "stealing" the idea from Ubuntu...

Hm, I wonder if it isn't already possible to make a Runner for KRunner, or a plasmoid, by using dbusmenu.

EDIT: Just noticed the title which makes my comment a bit silly.

When I first read about that, I immediately thought about what KDE's response could be. I was thinking that we could probably just change the global menu plasmoid to do this - it already has access to the menu information itself, it just needs to (do some quick indexing, maybe, and) provide a text search mode (with fuzzy matching?). Possible? yes. Difficulty? probably moderate to hard (rudimentary text search and display results would probably be pretty easy, fuzzy matching and learning would be hard). Should we do it? Sure, why not!

Of course implementing it as a plugin in KRunner would probably be easier than changing the global menu plasmoid, since KRunner already has the infrastructure for searching and presenting textual results. I just don't know how comfortable I would be mixing my current application's menu items in with all of the other things that KRunner does; though I guess you could just separate them with different keyboard shortcuts, so it's not that big of a deal.

This would be task of Nepomuk itself.

As Canonical (Or Mark) is not innovating anything but doing as usually, copying Apple.

Apple has re-added this feature to OS X on 10.5.

All what person needs to do, is to open a help menu and type query and results are shown.
