Notifications work nice and I am subscribed for certain forums. But the notification emails are washed out from content. There are at least following problems with this approach:
- users' time is not valued enough: for new notification it's hard to judge whether to click the link that arrived (the post may be unimportant) - if I decide to keep the recent notification emails, it's hard to locate given notification because only topic is mentioned - no mention of forum's and sub-forum's name but only the topic - no mention of author or posting time - there's not reason why it shouldn't be mentioned - if I am looking for specific topic, have to click on a random post of the same topic and scroll - there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to receive, say, first two paragraphs of the post OR if I wish, full post - since forum.kde.org isn't currently usable for mobile devices, more verbose notification mails could help in handling the growing forums a mobile device's email client - by at least providing proper read only access Please note, I am trying to employ forums as a replacement for user mailing lists since forums start proving its usefulness. Keep the good work! |

This one bothers me as well, and yeah, this really can be improved. But the problem is, those are plain text files with some php vars (the latter not being the problem), which are translated. So, altering those messages for one language (EN) would mean we need translations...
With some help of the community we could of course easily fix that. We don't have THAT many supported languages installed. As for the default messages, i'll look into that. |
