Usually there should be some hint besides a topic in the main list if I participated in it or not. What is the hint in this forum?
Is there a way to set in the preferences a flag that I would get email notifying me if there's a new post in a thread I participated in?

While posting you can check "Notify me when a reply is posted" box under reply form (it is only available when you click "Reply to topic" button, not when writing "Quick Reply" directly below thread).

If you prefer more global solution (be notified on every thread you had post in), click "Logged in as <username>" on top part of page → User Control Panel → Board preferences → Edit posting defaults → Notify me upon replies by default (change to "Yes").

Also, on top part of page is "View your posts" link that will list all threads you have participated in. They will have appropriate icon if there are any unread messages.
