apper provides updates of software not installed

I'm running KDE 4.14.4 and I assume 'apper' is part of it. It provides me with software updates or installation of programs I haven't installed and don't want to install. I would have expected that it is checking for what's installed and then provides a list of available updates. Is there a way to configer it accordingly?
