save searches

Tue Nov 18, 2008 12:36 am
this is kind of a MyBB feature/enhancement, but if i get a search just like i need, i wish there was a way to save it, and even provide an RSS link so i can see any updates meeting that criteria.

any ideas/suggestions ?

As you say, this is a MyBB enhancement. MyBB has a very conveniant plugin system, and it shouldn't be too hard to create a plugin which does this. If you're not a PHP programmer, you could post your suggestion at the MyBB site (here and/or here), and someone may pick it up.

I would write it myself, if I didn't already have a list of plugins I want to develop...

i still wish this could be done. some way that i could have pre-set saved filters to show me only the latest posts in the sub-forums that i watch, and unanswered topics within those subforums.
like a filtering preference panel, the search would be for something like occurences of 'slackware' in recent posts to the Users forum, because even doing a broad search of this brings up commits and new aggregation. i know i can go to the search panel and tweak it, but laziness is golden sometimes ;)

A "Unanswered Posts" and "New posts" customization from UserCP to search within selected forums, sounds good! :)
But I would like to know how many users want this, or we would again be left with new features that only a few users use.

can we hammer out the definition or options, and then post a poll for users to answer?

Sure, I think it should basically have an options for the forums the user wants to search and any predetermined text. Not sure how multiple searches or selecting them from the main pages would work though.
