First of all congrats for the KDE forums.

I'm one of two developers of Eigen

It's KDE's own math (matrix...) library, and is getting used at several places in KDE 4.2 and KOffice 2.0, and KDE 4.3 should see much more usage. It is developed in KDE's SVN at /trunk/kdesupport.

Adoption of Eigen is currently picking up quickly and being two developers we are having a hard time meeting the user support demand on IRC and our mailing list.

So I've been thinking that opening a Eigen users' forum would be really helpful as it could help create a community of users who help each other.

So could you please consider opening such a forum at forum.kde.org ?

thanks for joining us. I heard about Eigen. Of course it would be possible to open such a forum. Though it is not guaranteed that it can stay. We simply don't want to overcrowd the board with forums that don't have any input.
So we can open it and see if it works out. Is that okay for you?

Would you also be willing to moderate it? As you are probably one of the guys who knows most about that

Yes I really understand that you don't want to keep stale forums forever. I expect users to pick up the forum quickly, and then in about 1 month we'll have our big 2.0 release so if even after that there still is no activity on the forum then we can give up. So I'd say, give this experiment 2 monthes and then it's OK to give up.

Yes I'm OK to moderate it too. (I expect that the messages appear immediately on the forum but then I'm OK to look after them and make sure there's no abuse).

Yes this is a "pure template library" in the sense that all the code is in headers and there's no binary to link to. Yes it seems to fit perfectly into "Developers -> Libraries & APIS"?

I've had a look at "Developers -> Libraries & APIS" and it doesn't currently seem to be split into sub-forums. I was hoping that it would be possible to create a new separate forum for Eigen so that in the list of threads one would see only Eigen threads, so that it would be possible to search specifically Eigen threads, etc... would that be possible?

The jabberbot sounds great but I think i'll also enable full email notifications + set up a filter in my e-mail.

Sure, we can add a new child forum in "Developers -> Libraries & APIS", just like with Plasma under Desktop Environment. This way all Eigen threads are fully separated and you can subscribe to only this forum.

One minor request: Can I hide the two standard forum announcements at the top of the threads list?

oh and another one -- rather a suggestion: the big blue "KDE desktop environment - Forum" at the top, i'm afraid that, since it doesn't mention Eigen, it could make users puzzled as to whether they're really on the right forum for eigen (even though Eigen is written above the threads list). Could it be changed to either be a little smaller, or mention Eigen, like: "Eigen - KDE desktop environment - Forum" ?

About the 2 posts on top, they are global announcements and can't be unset on different forums. But i was already thinking of removing at least the "missing a forum?" announcement. But for the other one, it was made to make the users aware of how to post in the right way and to speed up the anwering.

For the banner on top, well, that's a bit difficult, as we only have one template right now. But overall that sounds good, just don't know ATM how i can do this. But i will look into this.

Now i added a big bar to the Eigen forum with your description. It is not AS big as the main bar, but maybe does it as a workaround, what do you think?
