Forum ambassadors?

Wed Mar 25, 2009 6:41 pm
ola!

I am writing a KDE article for a local magazine, and would be mentioning the forums. For that purpose, I'd like to know the names of the 5 most active forum backstage workers (not top posters), whom I will be mentioning separately, ofcourse praising the who deserving staff group.
I know that all staff are active, since that why they are staff! But their post count can be misleading in deciding who are the most active in doing work like forum software changes, styles etc. Plus as there might be non-staff members who work for forum development, I ask you this question.

Peace

That's a really though question and not really easy to answer. There are so many people of great help.
Let me first mention the subforums of KMyMoney or Eigen, where the developers themselves decided to moderate them (and let me say they are great at doing so).
Looking at the post count you can guess yourself who is our real super hero (not forgetting that bcooksley also has the highest "solved issues" rate on his shoulders :-) and being a bery active admin).
But that would be the only person i want to mention (as he really stands out. i think everybody agrees here with me).

Basically the whole team is wonderful and there is nothing i could say against them. Also mentioning the users, who are not only around for asking questions, but also for helping others out and giving us valuable feedback to make this forum an even better place.
And then we also have many KDE developers around, always willing to help out.

If you want to know about the stuff in the background, let me mention the KDE sysadmins group. They have a hard work with us at times as we often take the server to the limits :-) For example when we announce a release party with open discussion to everyone and the massive attack of visitors takes us down, or by problems with the database performance, etc.
The software itself is based on MyBB, and we mostly try to keep the core clean (apart from small adjustments). But what we do is extend it with plugins, mostly self written. For an overview of this you can visit our repository at KDE SVN to get an idea. Also we have our team channel on freenode at #kde-forum where we discuss problems, improvements etc.

So, sorry, concrete names are hard to tell, the whole team deserves it. This was just meant to give some background. But thanks for writing about us.

No doubt, the team is amazing. But I cannot mention them all :) Actually, I am not looking for all names!! ;)
What I was looking for would be names of 5 individuals who help in coding for the forum (assuming PHP? Hard to tell as I see html links and myself being a strictly non technical person), who design forum themes and styles, who manage the teams etc.
ie. 100% forum work (all aspects of the forum, and the forum only), not KDE software developers and sysadmins (they rock hard, real hard! But they have their own place in the article - remember, KDE forum is a part of KDE, and my article is about KDE, it's applications, it's web resources, and so some articles would be all about the developers ;))

So 5 forum team members who strictly do forum job would be.... ???? :D

You are making it really hard for me... :-D

Unfortunately either way, 5 is not enough. Let me just provide a list of the core team:

First, sure, the 3 admins that do most of the background stuff. That would be OhReally, bcooksley and me. All of them provided some plugins or code modifications to mybb, too.

Then we have sayakb, super moderator, and a nice guy with insanely much ideas, always trying to make my work a bit harder :-D Provided a bunch of plugins, and lately the new brainstorm possibility.

The next one: tkoski, also super moderator, also many many ideas (will provide a really great plugin in a short time, stay tuned everybody!) and a great background knowledge of web technologies.

It started with the idea of weekly klassrooms (lately a bit silent, will change soon again) we introduced the mentors, and along with that there came einar and msoeken into the team, great guys, with an huge willingness to help out whereever they can, making it easier for the rest of us sometimes.

And last but not least, our most active team members are these: sKreamer, Jabberbot and aggregator. sKreamer is the nice lady letting us on irc know what is going on on the forums.
Jabberbot is the gentleman telling us over Jabber if there is something new in subscribed threads/forums.
aggregator is the top poster EVER feeding us with news, releases and commits from KDE.

That's it about the core team. I can't nail it down more than that, sorry! :-)

Our most valued workers are the 2000+ active users; without them this would just be a silly hobby...

When you've finnished your article, could you please post a link? Or, if it's not online, could you just paste the entire article here? It may be of use to others (feel free to pick a license).
