navigating the forum, some of its duplication, and trying to give KDE GUI feedback
Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:22 am
IIRC I joined about when the forum started. The list of subforums goes off the page, but several areas seem duplicated. For example, there are 3 - 4 places I could post GUI suggestions and I do not know where the developers will get them best. There is 'look & feel' & 'desktop environment and window manager,' 'discussions' & 'brainstorm.' I suppose some other topics are sort of duplicated.
Someone on freenode #kde told me about 'brainstorm,' but I have been posting my ideas in 'look & feel' because it seems most general. However, I was also told that the forums do not cross-post to the mailing lists. Some Gmane forums, which are actually on Usenet, do that. I know not if a KDE one exists there, but it is not that hard for a website to cross-post to Usenet and listservs. Scene.org subscribes & cross-posts to Usenet.

RE: navigating the forum, some of its duplication, and trying to give KDE GUI feedback

KDE Brainstorm would be the only place to submit ideas (that belong to one idea per thread category, hence excluding feedback threads). Look and feel, on the other hand is predominantly for posting queries or answering to others'.
The way I see it, Desktop Environment forum would have any problems related to KWin, Plasma etc, while Look and Feel has what the name suggests. Threads that are appropriate for both categories may belong to either of them. I'll discuss this with the staff and post back if we decide to modify the existing structure. |
