My only complaint is the lack of versions.

So 3.5, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 talk is all thrown together.

I suppose 4.3 and 4.4 could be subforums of the development forum?
And 3.5 put elsewhere?

One of the reasons for restructuring is that we have way to many forums. Including forums for every version would be counterproductive.
Also, versions always change. We can't set up new forums once in half a year. So for the version problem, easiest solution is just to state which version your problem is referring to.

A forum (only one) for the current unstable version? Now it would be for 4.3; when 4.3 will be released it would become for 4.4.

That could work, yes. Maybe even mix it with compiling issues on unstable. Would that be an option?
