BugWeeks - Before Getting Started

Sat Dec 12, 2009 4:56 pm
This document is part of the BugWeeks initiative.
There are several things you need to properly setup in order to participate in a bugweek session:

Setup your user accounts and discover Bugzilla

  1. Get a KDE Community Forums account: http://forum.kde.org/ucp.php?mode=register (you probably have one already ;))
  2. Get a KDE Bug Tracking System account: https://bugs.kde.org/createaccount.cgi
  3. Read the Quick Introduction to Bugzilla

Setup your KDE desktop testing environment

In order to check the bug reports you need a test environment, which could be the stable KDE SC version or the current unstable one (named "trunk")

Some bugs are already fixed in the current unstable version (as it is more "up-to-date"), but it is also more difficult to setup, so we cannot force every person to use it.

Setup an unstable environment (compiling)

Setup an unstable environment (using packages)

Usually, some of the used GNU/Linux distributions creates packages for the beta or RC releases of the KDE SC. You oftenly need to enable a special repository.

You can install the KDE SC 4.4 beta 2 packages

Setup a stable environment

  • If you already use an stable KDE Desktop version (provided by your distribution) you would like to create a new user account.

This is useful to test all the possible bugs with a clean environment and to not affect your current configurations.
