i tried to login/register via ssl (https://), but didn't find it...

Please detail the problem you are having. I can access the Forum over SSL without issue.

ok, i entered 'http://forum.kde.org' into the address bar and followed the links to register here.
there was never ever a link to the https:// for submitting login and password secure... why did i have to enter https:// manually? why is there not an automatic switch from http:// to https:// as soon as a password is submitted? |

Unfortunately phpBB does not offer a secure logins only option - and we do not want to mandate visiting the forum over SSL because that means the various resources on the page cannot be cached - increasing the load on the server.

that may or may not be a valid argument.
but at least a link at the login page to switch to ssl should be offered. or a https:// link in the html-form for secure submission... but that's probably just me, everyone else doesn't seem to care. so don't bother... |

We'll be discussing in the team to see if a forum modification would be appropriate in this case.
