I think that it would it would be good if a user was usin the Folder View Plasmoid then it would be great if Folder View had full file management capabilities including opening up other instances Folder View and the capacity to navigate the file system.

As far as I can remember, the Plasma developers said that folder view will not be a full-fledged file management solution.

Maybe thats what they said, but it would be nice if it would be. This is a feature request faq.

not going to happen. folderview is not a file manager, it is specifically intended not to be one and we have no intention of making it into one. the simplicity and straightforward nature of folderview is a benefit to more people than replicating dolphin/konqueror in plasma would be.

A pity really. A beautiful and nice interface that looks like it should do something but in the end is a disfunctional airhead that simply sits there and takes up resources.

The Folder view is precisely what its name says it is. I believe there is another Plasmoid that offers the feature you are after.

I agree with the idea of not making Folderview another complete file manager, but don't you think some basic file browsing features would be useful? Folderview already has some basic file management functions, like copying, deleting and some others via right click menu. Adding just basic browsing, nothing else, would improve its utility and keep it light and simple. Sometimes you just want to open a folder, and click to open a file, not too necessary to launch a complete app like Dolphin or Konqueror.

As stated above, there is already a different plasmoid ( can't remember its name ) that offers this feature.

I tried to do a search over at kde-loog. There are a couple of brainstorming ideas, but nothing concrete.

This has been implemented in trunk.

Not really since it still doesn't have "full file management functionality". However, you can indeed navigate around in Folder View now.

What sort of ordinary file management tasks can't you do?
