[WONTFIX] Don't use KDE Brainstorm

Wed Mar 25, 2009 8:02 am
Instead of using a forum you should modify bugzilla to allow for people to put up ideas in addition to bugs. It is already well used, easily accessible. Has a rating system. Available to every coder out there. Setup already for assigning tasks to coders. Really bugs and ideas are the same things. Things you can fix/implement or decide its not worth it. Make it nicer/friendlier and you will be getting more people involved in bug fixing/reporting by improving your system. At the same allowing for ideas to come up more freely.

Disclaimer: I've not coded anything for KDE so i'm not sure about your process. But I think this would be helpful for a lot of OSS.

RE: Don't use KDE Brainstorm

The bugzilla is poorly suited to Brainstorming, since it requires a product be assigned, does not have an easy way to view Ideas, and does not have an easily accessible voting system.
It is also more complex and can scare users. It also requires a seperate login from the forum, which more users are likely to have an account for.

The purpose of brainstorming is to come up with reasonable feature requests which are then passed up into Bugzilla, providing a decent description and quantifying how much users would appreciate the feature.

Idea will not be fixed.
