GNOME's file archiver (File-Roller) supports ACE file format. KDE users also need uncompress ACE compressed files.

It's not a new idea. There is unace plugin for ark.
So ark should work with ace file, if it doesn't work for you, then there's a bug. You can submit a bug report to bugs.kde.org

Are you sure? I am with Ark 2.12 and KDE 4.2.3, I have installed unace and unace-nonfree plugins, and Ark doesn't support ACE files, beacuse when I go to open an ACE file, I see this dialog box (since Ark's KDE 3 version): The request is already submitted some years ago: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80778

Here I am with Ark 2.13 on KDE 4.3.1. I have unace plugin installed and I can confirm that Ark doesn't support ACE files yet.
But the most serious is that the related entry has been deleted "mysteriously" from KDE 4.3 feature plan list and also from KDE 4.4 feature plan list. Is this a joke? |

No, we simply decided to drop support for it after trying it out. I'll comment on it more thoroughly in the bug linked above: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80778
