Hi there, I couldn't find a similar topic so I'll post it myself:
I know a lot of people which do not like compositing effects. That has never been a problem in Linux. The machine has more to do and you always have longer to wait for everything (okay, may depend on the machine, but in generally). At last it's a thing of freedom until some Nvidia and AMD users use propritary drivers only for there KDE. Unfortunaltely KDE and especially Plasma looks very forgotten than. There are very ugly fringes around all the Plasma windows in Oxygen for example. The panel is simply black what really looks Vista :-@ When using Alt+Tab the app switch menu looks like KDE 3 and all this small things. I think there should be a better support for this important mode. On Planet KDE I read about this issue, there somebody talked about faking transparency for the panel for example. I think that should be supported until KDE has a "Wow" factor even without compositing. |

If this is the solution you suggest, the developers have already clearly said no to fake transparency. Marked as Wontfix.

And as I said another developer already said it would be nice to have - and he already had an rudiment running. Is it not allowed to speak about this issue anymore? And I mentioned two other things. I thought this is a plattform to tell what all the users would like to see how. So why saying wontfix because of one sentence...

Please post each idea seperately. Each posting should only have one idea.

A patch for this has already been rejected by the Plasma developers, and as far as I understand from the discussions I've seen, they don't want to implement fake transparency in Plasma. We've decided to mark all ideas that are rejected by the developers as Wontfix. Since this idea suggested to implement fake transparency, it was moved here. If you have any other suggestions on how to make KDE4 look better without compositing, please do post them. Note however, as bcooksley pointed out, that one thread should only consist of one idea.

Okay, thanks for the info. I will pay attention to that in the future. I thought "better non-compositing look" is one big idea, but I know what you mean, developers need concrete suggestions.
