why not rename KMail in KaMail and use a Kamel (camel) as a mascot? :shade:

Because it would get confused with Perl?

A new name would be confusing.
But there could be codenames like "KMail 4.3 - DesertKaMail" or something like this. |

Well KMail does sound "GMailish" and even though I use it it does bothers me... Even though KMail was probably here before GMail.
Anyway I'm against KaMail it sounds strange and I always pronounce KMail as Kay-Mail which would be lost due to rename . What if it would be renamed in something completely different like Outlook or ThunderBird like? Well the downside now you exactly know what it means, then it you would be left to guess... So maybe on the end KMail doesn't sound so bad...

uhhm, the additional a in KaMail is pronounced as an "ey" so, you wouldn't have to change anything in your pronounciation.
why should we name it Outlook or Thunderbird? :-S ... sorry i don't get it. with KaMail we still would have the word "Mail" in the name, so noone will have to guess. and we would have a better mascot i know perl has a camel as a mascot, but only according to O'Reilly, aaand several other animals are mascots of more than one application. however, it was just a funny thought i had. still, i think it'd be better than KMail. :-P

The Outlook / Thunderbird part was a bit of a joke, I just wanted to show you that maybe the best thing is to leave it as it is. And to go in pronunciation : I pronounce Camel as: Kaamel KaMail would be pronounced by you as: KayMay-l And I would pronounce it as: Kaa-Mail Sorry still think that the idea is a bit silly, but that's just me.

If KPDF can change to Okular then KMail can (if they want) change to something nice... "Korrespond" as in mail == correspondence...
Like other apps, like Konversation for chat... Okular (ocular) for reading etc I vote for "Korrespond" !

I like just calling it "kontact" and considering kmail as a plug-in. Thoughts?

Let's **** the devs off and call it Mailware.
If kmail2 doesn't deliver, we call it Failware. That's "Education by humiliation". |

VaterGarp, I doubt the devs will appreciate that and nor will that motivate them to improve the software. If you have constructive ideas please post them as a separate brainstorm idea or add them under a discussion thread in the appropriate forum.

Oh my. I had the impression this discussion was drifting off into humourous regions anyway.
After all, it's 4 positive to 39 negative votes already. Just for the record: I've never used anything but KMail and I'm very much looking forward to KMail2. It's one of KDE's best applications in my opinion (and hopefully will continue to be), I didn't mean to insult anybody. |

Yeah no worries, I looked at your post history and saw you weren't the trollish type of person so I took it in good humour. Unfortunately others might not
