I've got very poor eyesight and need to set the font size for everything to at least 18pt.
Now in KDE 3.5 I can even change the font size for time, but not in the latest offering. Usually the time gets partially blocked by the icons directly to the left of it. And you can't adjust the size of the font for the time display. |

The font size on the digital clock is proportional to the height of the panel. Increase the panel height and the font size increases.

Thanks Annew, however this just results in the panel being unreasonably large and taking away from the precious real estate (display room) for all other applications. And no please don't tell me to autohide the panel, I certainly don't want to do that either. I love KDE 3.5, its customizability is what freed me from Windows. It may seem like a minor thing, being able to manually adjust the font size of the time display, but for someone with poor eyesight it is a Godsend! Now why would they mess with something that works so well in KDE 3.5 and remove it from KDE 4.x? I am so pleased with KDE 3.5 that I was actually eager to try KDE 4.x, however it appears they've done away with many of the features that made 3.5 so great. Perhaps this has been done in a misguided effort to make KDE 4.x more like GNOME (yuk). I hope they don't turn there backs to us KDE 3.5 faithful and hope they actually listen to us. Please, make KDE great again. |

If you make the clock too big for the panel, it won't fit. It is designed to fit in the space provided by the panel. Even if you could control the size, at best this would only be able to make it smaller. You are still limited by the size of the panel.

I actually have been doing this for years without problem in KDE 3.5 KDE 4.x simply can not match it. |

Doing what? Making the font too big to fit in the panel? That doesn't make sense to me.

No Annew, I refer to the fact that in KDE 3.5 I have the time displayed in a much larger font than is possible with KDE 4.x at the same size panel. It fits the panel just fine by the way. It may seem trivial to you but to anyone with poor eyesight or who is otherwise visually impaired, I assure you this is a very valuable feature and it is ashame that this feature is not present in KDE 4.x I guess I'll have to stick with KDE 3.5 until they get this fixed, perhaps by KDE 4.5? |

There really is nothing to fix. The font will be as big as your panel allows it to be. It fills the available space. If you want it bigger it naturally needs more space, hence a taller panel. I really don't see what your problem is. And yes, I do have impaired eyesight.

Hi all.
1st. Adjustable clock does the trick. 2nd. Having multiple panels with different height does the trick. Thanks for "helping us out and listening to us..." Andy |
