Skype has released a new devkit, for developper to be able to create their own gui using the skype protocol and service...
It would be nice to have a full integrated kopete/skype client, and to avoid installing the skype client...

Kopete is moving to telepathy, so this would probably need to be implemented there.

I've heard KDE is planning to move away from Kopete and go with telepathy instead. And yes - skypekit should be implemented in KDE.

bit rude. I hear the KDE Telepathy team are awesome - especially their awesome leader, David.

We have a release yesterday actually.

Anyway; with regards to implementing it, that's the beauty of working with telepathy and Freedesktop - it just needs to be done once, by anyone upstream in telepathy and KDE pretty much get it all instantly for free.

There have been a few Telepathy Skype projects, one actually already exists and is in use on the N900, but it has license issues and it's all a bit complex.

We currently support a skype bridge as part of telepathy-haze, that shows skype users in the contact list, but it requires normal skype running.

Anyway, that blog article in the OP is an article is from 2009, I don't think anything happened on that front. Especially with Skype now having it's new owners.

So to summarise: Yeah, skype work would be cool, but none of this should be done in KDE itself - if anyone wants it enough to work on it, work upstream with Telepathy.

If Telepathy gets support - I promise I'll make sure KDE TP supports it.

That was my reason to post again on this topic.

telepathy is a great new apps. I cant wait to get complete usefull realise of it.
I've tested and I thinks it the better than kopete (which I use right now)
but one problem, in gg protocol I cant download contacts from server, it dosnt download avatars in that protocol too.
And next problem is that app isnt save the history of conversation.

it will be great to have all, jabber, facebook, gg and skype in one great app wich is a telepathy.

As far as i know there is no movement to incorporate skypekit into anything because of license incompatibilities. That is what I think i heard, but the devs can refute it. I think there was a blog article on planet gnome or planet kde

As far as I know this will NOT be implemented unles skype changes its terms

This came up in IRC recently some facts (from someone who's worked with Skypekit) emerged.

- You have to buy a license for SkypeKit
- You cannot make an open source app use skypekit, there's a tonne of rules.

Someone should close this idea.
