Hi.

This idea is about when mostly in Plasma, something that is installable from kgethotnewstuff requires a package that is not installed. And then you get errors like "Script Initialization Failed"

My idea is that kgethotnewstuff should allow a way for the downloadable items to specify dependencies, using PackageKit, so that it can suggest packages when a user tries to install something that requires more packages, they don't have to hunt for them.

What do you think?

I'm sorry, but each distro has their own fancy way of doing things and at the moment this isn't yet possible.

I thought Kpackagekit was for abstracting the distro's package manager into an API that KDE could use?

Or is it the naming of the packages themselves that would cause issues?

If the distro uses it ... quite a few don't, not to mention Windows/Mac/FreeBSD installations of KDE.

But for the distros that do, it would be nice to have...

Adding it to the distros that do, shouldn't effect the distros that don't... It just would not prompt to install anything...
