[DUPLICATE] A Real Radial Menu

Mon Mar 23, 2009 7:39 am
Greetings coders,

I've been dying to get this on KDE4, but sadly it doesn't exist. I found Kommando done for KDE3, but that's not my desktop of choice. And it should be easy to do, I've seen in the Qt that radial menus are implemented..

Here's my reason to that: with KDE4 you've set up base towards the perfect desktop, you eliminated all the possible distractions, now we can have clean, minimal, efficient, _inspirational_ workspaces. That's great, I waited for 15 years to see some of that.

Now I need a fast, elegant and non-obtrusive way to get me to whatever I need to do every day. If you're like me, it's usually a small set of options. So I need something that can be invoked out of thin air (yes, like krunner), that can look good and can instantly give me an overview of my choices, while helping me to glide nicely and easily towards one path or the other. When it finished guiding me, it naturally dissapears.

For me, that's what a Real Radial Menu should do.

In my ideal RRM, I would like an initial menu consisting of: Projects, Scripts, Research, Library, and Administrative. When selected, each category should bring its own options, changing the circle: for projects I would put all my applications and folders that I am working with to get my projects done, on scripts I would put all my scriptwriting tools, on research I would probably need a database of assorted clips and ideas, on Library I want the essential documentation to be handy, and administrative should lead me towards scheduling, financing, emailing etc.

So here you have it, a visual tool that can easily have the function of a complete work management system. What do you think?

It is a duplicate. There is already a "radial-menu" Thread. When you have additional comments/ideas, post it there. ;)

You have mentioned some more concrete aspects. It would be useful, when you copy them into the other thread. They would also help me with an implementation. ;)
