As an addition to the, "Social Desktop" concept, it would be nice to set a single picture of yourself that is used all over the desktop:
1. In the K-menu (and possibly even in KDM); 2. In Kopete (with, "Default" being the desktop-wide picture, "None", and other 'avatars' added with, "Add new avatar") 3. Possibly in services used by Plasma (Identica.ca, Twitter.com, the new OCS plasmoid (for OpenDesktop.org) etc.) A simple change, but a nice one: if you change your picture in KDE, it changes everywhere else, and other people will easily be able to associate you with that new picture (instead of having different pictures of you all over the place, losing the connection between the picture and the person behind it). For things like Kopete, KMail and KAddressBook/KContactManager, I can imagine this being a rather simple thing to implement.

This could be implemented through akonadi

This already half exists - look under "About Me" in System Settings.
Code exists to use this in applications too - KUser::faceIconPath() The 'only' thing remaining is to encourage the individual applications to use this. I agree Kopete should, if it doesn't already. Though I don't understand why you would want K-Menu to do so? Try setting a photo and repost with a specific list of applications that should support this feature but do not. |
