Why don't you make a textbox for writing status in the main window itself, like in Pidgin? In Pidgin, a user can change status in one click, without browsing any context menus. And the user won't remember that he is using a custom status, because the textbox is shown until he remove it. Also, the textbox contains a history of statuses. It is very comfortable, and I want to see these features in Kopete, too.
